Nitrate Nitrogen

Nitrogen is one of the three main nutrients of life, along with phosphorus and carbon. Nitrate is an inorganic form of nitrogen that occurs naturally. It is also a component of atmospheric and wastewater pollution and elevated concentrations in streams may be associated with acidification or indicative of wastewater pollution.

The following graphs present county-wide trends in nitrate nitrogen for each year that data were collected. High color values may exceed the maximum shown on the legend.
